The only Audis I would recommend are the
A8 with the 4.2L V8 engine
A6 with the 4.2L V8 or 2.8L V6 engine
A4 with the 2.8L V6
and if you desire a reliable AWD car that has an engine
that will run many miles, one of these will be fine.
The 1.8L Turbo will be worn after 60'000 miles, and after
twice that you can junk it. It is not an engine that
was designed to last many miles.
The 2.7L Twin Turbo... well 2x Turbo = Double Trouble, the
S4 that uses that engine is great fun if you leave it stock
and if you have another car for the days it won't work...
The brand new 3.0L engine for the A4... 30 valves, is a disaster...
most of them deliver no more power then the 2.8L engine and many
more cook em self to dead due to a bad cooling system. It will
take Audi another 2 years to get it right, until then I would not
wish to own a car with that engine. It comes in the brand new A4.
From a safety aspect only the new shape A4 and the A8 are worth their
money. The Old A4 (like S4 shape) and the A6 offer both less safety then
the 9-3 and the 9-5.
The current 9-3 is a good car but in its last year. There is a new 9-3
on the way. Thus I would at best lease one for 2 years, not buy one.
The Viggen is the most fun...
The current 9-5 just got better, leasing one for 4 years might be
a good idea. If you buy, you need to keep it for around 6-7 years
to avoid the early depreciation of the car.
In snow any SAAB will do fine if you put on Winter tires, of course
an AWD car with winter tires will do better.
One more thing... you can get 9-5 with ECU upgrades and warranty
that pop out up to 300Hp or more... see performance for more info.
One last thing, while AUDI makes a lot of AWD cars... they don't make
the best AWD cars when it comes to handling. When you compare and AWD
Audi to some other AWD cars, the AUDIS don't fare so well. AUDI saves
big bucks by using only 1 self locking diff or through the use of Haldex,
AUDIs with 2 or 3 self locking diffs is a NO NO.

Coolknight
