Saab convertible is rock solid and reliable... My '99 9-3 Convertible is flawless still. The 9-3 is based on a design that has been out several years
and is (very) nearly perfected. The car will go well over 200K with its
great engine and build (as do all Saabs). Service, as always, is dealer-dependent, and it will likely need little things done starting at, say, 70 or 80K miles. Design flaws are pretty much nil at this late point.
On the downside, although this car will always be gorgeous (and probably a classic), it is the last year for this 9-3. The new 9-3 series will be out next fall (with the new convertible), probably making for very poor resale
with high depreciation of the old model (solution--keep it forever, like
many Saab owners)
You may want to consider a used 2000 or 2001 9-3 --they are exactly the same car, and have had the early depreciation already (or a late '99). Getting a used Saab with low miles is fine!
