By and large the cars are the similar but there are some important differences with 99 and 01, 02. The 01 has the ground effects package and 16" wheels standard - the painted air dams are much easier to deal with when you wax the car than the grey textured panels of the '99 - small point but important IMO since getting wax off of the grey panels is difficult. Also they are only SE's in 01 with the 205 hp engine.
Early '99 base conv. had manual seats on both sides and no cup holder on the dash.
Anyway, right now I own both a '99 Base conv. and a '01 SE conv. I think the '01 build quality fit and finish are better than the '99 and there are some equipment improvements that have been made over the past couple of years - some of it has to do with base vs. SE and Saab including as standard some items that at one time were optional. One thing that I hope is sorted out is the heater knobs. They were my biggest problem on my '99.
