I was in a similar market last fall... A4, 325 (too expensive), Maxima (too sedan like) or 9-3. First to give my opinion on your concerns.
Speed -- manufactures really dislike modifications. You'll have to modify and void the warranty on the Audi to achieve what Saab has already done.
Resale -- Audi depreciates about the same (at least around here) and there are a lot to choose from (at least 5 within a short drive). Used 99 A4 ($34k new) are right around $19k where as a 9-3 SE ($29k new) is around $17. Viggens are much harder to find.
Stability -- A4s do have a great suspension and ride. That is the only fault I see in the Saab. But if you want to feel better about Saab, drive a Maxima. Great speed and power, but floats like a boat.
The most important point I considered was R E L I A B I T Y. I did extensive research on all the above and Audis much to my surprise are VERY unreliable. I went to the extent to email 20 A4 owners to get their opinions. Out of the 20, 10 said they had very few or no problems, 10 said they had many problems and 4 said it was the most unreliable car they have ever owned. Consumer Reports rated the Audi in their "least reliable" category in customer surveys. I don't mean to "flame" them. They are great cars and I was a day away from buying one, but I did find some major concerns.
I went with the Saab because of: attention to design, uniqueness, value, performance and (boy I hope) reliability. Hope this helps.
