there's a new Maxima and new A4 where I work, and the Maxima looks way better than the A4 in my opinion. And I hate Japanese styling. The A4 is, in my opinion, one of the most bland cars I've ever seen. It's also a mirror image of an A6, only shrunk by 20%.
What do you want to do? The Viggen provides more room in the back seat, much more interior hauling room, is fun to drive, looks better in my opinion, and has some nice features the Audi doesn't (better gauges -- try driving both cars at night; "night panel"; I like having weather band; etc.). Most people say that Audi has a better interior, but most of the difference to me between interiors is minimal. The Audi will drive better, although you're going to have to chip it to get any type of performance. The Audi A4 3.0 quattro has an MSRP (with options to outfit it similarly to the Viggen) of 38,260. If you can get a last year model Viggen, you'll save substantially over that price.
Personally, I wouldn't buy the Audi if it were 20k, but I value styling and functionality way more than driveability. Plus, people often say that the Audi drives better. This is probably true. However, on the way home, I average 30-40 miles per hour over the speed limit on freeways and I double the local speed limit on the twisties. On the local roads, I don't go faster simply because I'm already doubling the speed limit and because I'm afraid of hitting a deer or other animals. Would I benefit from being able to go even faster in the Audi? I doubt it, as I'm already going as fast as I wish to go.
