You’re scaring me...
I just purchased a 1999 93 with 30,000 miles on it. I can tell by the service record that my car has had only a few problems, the main one being a heater control knob needing to be replaced. I also just had the 30,000 mile service, which was more expensive than my 1998 Infiniti I30, but about the same as my 1997 Volvo 850 GLT.
The 850 and the I30 are now history. I got rid of the 850 because of problems, but the I30 was a great car, it just didn’t have enough room for my bicycles. Hence, enter the 93.
The reason for this response is that the 850 had as many problems as your 93. 1. Replacement of the alternator at 13, 703 miles. 2. Replacement of a leaking shock absorber at 16,399 miles. 3. Replacement of the seat frame at 34, 208 miles (March 21, 2000). This included the replacement of the seat rails and seat bolt on separate occasions. 4. Replacement of several parts of the seat belt catch on the front passengers seat at 36,387 miles. 5. Replacement of the front brake rotors at 37,086 miles. This involved the replacement of the front brake pads for the second time. That means the front pads wear out about every 18, 000 miles. 6. Replacement of the ABS Control Unit at 39,419 miles At the same time, the rear brake pads were replaced.
I did a lot of research before I bought the 93 and found it to be a fairly reliable car. Even Consumer Reports had good things to say about its reliability. One of my neighbors has a 1998 93, with a 120,000 miles on it without any problems.
I think it is sometime individual vehicles, not the overall line of cars, that have problems due to the quality control of some items, which are later corrected or improved upon.
But these are just my thoughts. I really like my 93 and plan to keep it until it tells me otherwise.
