Disabling door speakers

I've replaced the dash and rear 6x9 speakers with Infinity Kappas and were sorta happy with the results.. However, it turned out that the sound level (sensitivity?) of the door mid-bass speakers were much higher than the other speakers, plus they don't sound very good. So I took the advice of this board and unplug it from the head unit.
However... I was wondering...
I disconnected the mid-bass amp from the head unit, but is it still consuming power? How can I disconnect it?
Better yet, maybe I can rewire the rear speakers to that amp. I'm pretty sure the head unit doesn't have enough power to feed both pair of speakers. Is this a DIY job? (More specifically, is it easy to feed wires from the head unit to the amp? (where is the amp? and how do I get to it?)
P.S. The "radio remover" is available at Sears, Walmart, and the local auto parts store for ~$4 to $6. Its a little nicer than my clothes hanger.. I found that the radio doesn't slide out. I had to carefully pry it out with 2 flat head screwdrivers.
