Hmm.. Removing the head unit was tough because I've never seen it done before, and didn't want to damage anything. Once I've done it, it wasn't that difficult. I also replaced the dash speakers (very easy), rear speakers (troublesome, but straightforward, as I had to remove the steel bracket from the body), and replace the sway bar (easy).
If rewiring the rear speakers to the external Amp is as easy as spicing 2 pairs of speaker cables from the head unit plug to the external amp, and getting access to the external amp is simply removing a whole bunch of screws (no fragile clips or displacing many parts), then I can probably do it.
Dean/Jeremy: I've seen the plug for the head unit, and is pretty confident I can just cut the rear speaker wires and spice it to another wire. Is it easy to get a wire from that tight space to the external amp?
I guess another problem I'll encounter is the volume. I will no longer be able to use the FADE function to control how loud the front vs. the rear speakers. If the external amp drive the rear speakers loud, than I don't have much control...
Hmmm.. maybe I should just get a completely new head unit with decent sound and power and get it over with.. Decisions decisions..
