The speed rating of a tire is partly indicitive of it's speed capabilities, but also of it's handling and ride comfort qualities as well. As you climb the speed scale, you will find thick sidewall that enhance grip and precision as well as comtributes to a harsher ride.
I, myself, am a proponent of passive safety as oppositely demonstrated by buicks and SUVs. My SAAB came with v-rated tires, my dodge with h-rated tires. I feel they are both well matched to the vehicles through experience in emergency manuvers and other enthusiatic driving. I would not change these tire specifications for fear of diminishing the overall safety of the vehicle. (I really don't want to know what active safety devices feel like, such as airbags in my face.)
BTW, probably the one truth in advertising was from the tire company that said, the only safety device in contact with the road is your tires. If any one is wondering, I am generally disposed to using dunlop tires.

tony
