Some time back I posted a query to see if anybody else had similar experience with their 9-3, armed with a bit more info can anybody offer additional insight into my troubles?
Used '99 9-3 SE HOT.
Randomly but regularly I find the following condition, after sitting for a night the car will not start motion without being pushed (foot out door with other on clutch) or by gently releasing clutch until it "bangs" the car into motion. Has yet to happen in daily driving (i.e. going out shopping with multiple parkings/startings, requires a good ten hours or better of sitting).
Initially I was suspect of the brakes. A common weak spot on SAABs from what I dug around in here on the SAABNET. Queried dealer (as handbrake was sluggish to release as well as engaging very high) and they serviced. Handbrake worked fine, lower engagement and it seemed at the time a cure for the bang drive trouble. About two weeks later however the condition reappeared.
Dealer could find no troubles with brakes (I suspect they aren't too crooked on this either) and couldn't reproduce. Great, nothing like kick starting your fine Swedish auto out of the drive in the morning....
Fast forwarding to this weekend I remembered to not engage the handbrake overnight to see if any effect happened. Low and behold this morning the car suffered the symptoms again.
So, that noted I think we can safely rule out the handbrake. The other notables:
My clutch. Warbles greatly at times, especially as it is subject to heating in heavy stop and go traffic. Many have commented about this with suspicions of the pressure plate, throw out bearing or a spring being out of whack in the clutch somewhere.
The "bang" seems more frequent when air temperatures cool off.
Also notable is that when the car is suffering this malady the shifter will not typically come out of reverse until after the "big bang".
So let's think for a few and see if we can come to a consensus on what to look into next.
Could my clutch be bad? Action seems good, engages a tad high but doesn't seem to slip.
Bad master cylinder? The clutch is hydraulic if memory serves so if it is failing could this symptom arise? Brakes feel find as does the steering...
Throw out bearing? Know all too well what it does and what happens when failed but I've fortunately never had the misfortune of having my own fail. What's that like?
Pressure plate? Unlikely, but again, I've never had one give any trouble so I'm not sure what I'd be experiencing with that.
That spring in the clutch? Sounds silly to think something like that could be a culprit but stranger things have happened. If I could only remember the poster that talked about his experiences with that....
Any help given appreciated, I'd like to stop hearing my neighbor joke about my kick start SAAB (his Ducati is quite reliable and nice... Hmmmmm).
