push without starting Posted by JimBlake [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Brakes vs. clutch?? (long), Drew, Wed, 16 Oct 2002 23:40:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Why can't you get the shifter out of reverse without the 'bang' happening? Does it happen when you move the lever? Or when you disengage the clutch? I'm trying to figure out exactly when the 'bang' happens. Narrow it down to ONE SINGLE action; for example just disengaging the clutch, or just moving the car.
Just sit down & press in the clutch pedal. No key, don't move the gearshift, nothing. Does it 'bang' when you disengage the clutch? If not, hold the clutch disengaged & have someone push the car enough to make the 'bang'.
Whatever you need to do to make the 'bang', do each thing separately. Don't do 3 things at once or you won't know which one is the cause. You wanna know which individual action causes the noise. Then you can try that action alone while somebody listens to narrow down the location of the noise.
