I can personally tell you that the 6L remaining part may or may not be true. A few weeks ago, I was pulling into a gas station with ~12miles remaining on DTE and the car's thottle stuttered for a second! That time, I put in a 16.686 gal! (I didn't put more than gas in after the gas pump "auto-stopped") I believe the gas tank is 17 gallons? Meaning that I had under 1L left. Assuming 30 miles/gallon, I guess that was ~9 miles remaining on DTE. (Very accurate DTE!)
However, after the last 2 incidents, I don't think I'm going to cut it this close from now on.. Especially with the near freezing weather upon us.
I agree about the keeping the level above X% part because it keeps the impurity/dirt/moisture at the top from getting into the pump.
