While I'd agree with the other posters that a Z3 is the oddball in the mix...I have to take issue with the statements on practicality. I've owned a few Miatas over the last 10 years and I found them to be very practical cars. My wife and I learned very quickly how to pack a 2 seater with groceries, bring moulding home from Home Depot...even go on multiday camping trips with a dog. If you do most of your driving by yourself...then even 2 seats is overkill.

I've had people scoff at 2 seaters, complain about practicality and then point to their Tahoe as the bastion of practical. They drive to work alone and have no need for hauling capacity. They have no kids, no pets...and no money left over at the end of the month because they have to fill the tank every week. I don't get it.

Anyway...

Acceleration...dunno...prolly the HOT. Not sure of the Z3 pickup.

For sportiness, theres no doubt the Z3 wins. The SE's suspension is anything but taut and both Saabs are front wheel drive. The normally aspirated 9-5 V6 isn't a very thrilling ride...get the turbo instead.

Usefulness...I think you need to qualify that. If you have kids then the Z3 is out. If you want a convertible with kids, then look into a 9-3 convertible. If you want hauling capacity, a hatchback 9-3 wins. If you want luxury, then the 9-5 wins. If you want raw power...find a Viggen.

Fuel economy is prolly a nod to the 9-3.

If a 2 seat convertible is an option...have you considered Miatas? Not sure what your price range is...but you can get a 2 year old Miata and drop in a turbo kit, clutch and headers for under $20k and have a 2,500 lb car with 250-280 economical horsepower...Ford Cobras will eat your dust. Just a thought. I'm just not a big Z3 fan...ugly and maintenance hogs IMHO.
