question about "flushing oil" (long)

Ok, 1999 9-3 185bhp, 41000miles, manual gearbox
I've decided to switch over to full synthetic engine oil. The greater benefits and extended interval are worth the extra cost for me. I'm also going to be DIYing for the first time. I've searched the board and found out about copper washers, stripping the drain plug, Rhino ramps, etc so I think I'm good there. But one question remains...
I've read about "flushing oil", and wondering if I should do it, or if it isn't necessary? What do some of you think is best?
Just change the oil, replacing mineral oil with synth?
Just change the oil, using a semi-synth, and at the next change use full synth?
Use a flushing oil (eg 0w-20) and run the engine in neutral for 30seconds and then immediately thereafter put in the synth?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance to anyone who feels like throwing me a bone :)
