I switched my '90 C900 over to synthetic at 120k miles & just did a drain & fill. It's now at 160k miles & it's never had any oil-related issues. (But then, it doesn't have a turbo to worry about.) I also switched my '99 9-3 over at 16k miles with a drain & fill, & it's still fine at 40k. The Mobil 1 stuff is pretty good at cleaning old crud out, but your engine doesn't strike me as being "old" enough to worry about it at all. Perhaps the most I'd recommend is changing oil filters 1/2 way thru your new extended drain interval & adding top-up oil, but that would be it.
If you're really worried about it, track down some place which sells Mobil's Delvac 1 (a truck stop?) & use it for your first extended interval. Since it's designed primarily for the extra crud generated by a diesel engine (many of which now have turbos as well), it's an excellent cleaning oil with ALL the benefits of being full-syn. Then, you could still change the filter mid way & add a bit more fresh detergent/synthetic oil to boot.
Oh, & get a can of BG-44K from a decent auto parts store. Dump one can in your gas tank every 20k-30k miles to keep piston & injector deposits away.
