Lack of logic? My argument is based on logic. I don't know how you can think a Saab with a Subaru Engine/Drivetrain is still OK as long as Saab engineers fiddle with it a little. If you have ever studied Architecture or design you would know that what separates different schools of design is the people that execute those designs and their cultural heritage/traditions. In other words, a Saab is the expression of the Scandinavian people that are involved in their design. Of course, there are some other nationalities involved, but you get my point. In terms of Saab as an enthusiast's car and not something that your average Joe walks in and buys, I think it would be tragic to put a Subaru engine and tranny in. Think of the deep heritage of these cars and the Scandinavian design influence and how it permeates all areas of the car. (or used to)
If the cars become too saturated with GM parts, they will simply not be Saabs any more. It is bad enough already, even though I do like the new 9-3. Saab will simply be a brand that GM markets but has no real character. Think of ot this way: You take a thoroughbred horse and mate it with a donkey and then take the result and mate it with quarterhorse. You lose the good bloodlines. I believe that is what it happening at Saab.
