Get a new copper drain plug washer, since you won't know if the one that's on there has been reused or not. (I reuse mine once, & haven't had any leaks so far.)
Any idea how long the PO's drain intervals were on that "regular oil"? I'm surprised Dean didn't mention it, but a synthetic diesel oil like Delvac 1 or Rotella T Syn would help clean out crud left behind by whatever was used previously. The Delvac 1's pretty pricey in my area (about $28-$30 a gallon, from truck stops), but will easily go 10k miles & will give you gentle, long-term cleaning. The Rotella T Syn's not as high-quality as the Delvac 1, but you can find it at some auto stores (for closer to $20/gal, I think). Also, a larger filter like the ACDelco PF13 will capture more of whatever any synthetic oil will clean out so you don't feel like you have to change filters before changing your oil.
