snow by an older 3-series BMW!!!
Last night, I pick-up my 9-3 (w/195/60 Arctic Alpins) from the dealer and start heading home in about six inches of snow. I take a slow left off Rt. 1 onto a steep hill which is a shortcut home. About 20 yards up the hill, the TCS kicks-in and after a few more yards, I come to a halt. I try backing down and starting again to no avail. Turn on the hazards and ponder my options.
A short while later, I look in my rear-view mirror and see an early-90s BMW 3-series turn on to the same road and he proceeds to roll right past me without a single rear tire spinning (followed shortly thereafter by a Ford Focus). A plow came by two minutes later and clears a path to the side and in front of me and I eventually work my way on to pavement and start moving again.
Long story short, I know these aren't the most aggressive snow tires but to be passed by a BMW 3-series, C'MON!!! These cars are notorious for being horrible in the snow. Maybe they truly are the "Ultimate Driving Machine"?
Thanks for letting me rant :-)
Regards,
Derek

P.S. To add insult to injury, I got stuck going up my driveway and had to dig myself out!
