There are many pros and cons to both buying and leasing, many of which have been touched upon here. It largely comes down to how often you change cars, how many miles you drive and whether you want smaller payments forever (lease) or bigger payments for 3- 4 years, and then no payments for 3-4 years (buy)- so its really a matter of personal preference/style.
Personally, I keep my cars for 6+ years and drive a lot of miles so buying works out better for me. Plus, I have a personal problem with making a $2,000 tax payment to the state and a $1,000 bank fee (NY) every three years under a lease, instead of every 6 to 8 years when I buy. Most will say this is a small issue on a $30,000 car, but for me that 10% (plus the turn in fee), for which I receive no additional value added to the car, has always stopped me from leasing.
