To me, it sounds like your problem may be associated with a significant entrance of air past the air mass meter. Check all of the hoses AFTER the air mass meter for tears etc - and especially the connection of the intake manifold to the cylinder head. A simple and neat method is to spray a small amount of starting fluid around the areas that have rubber connections when your Saab is idling - if you hear the engine rev up - you found your leak...
Just be careful not to spray too much and to make sure that you do this in a well ventilated area like your driveway so that the fumes can dissapate quickly...
