Hmm. Been curious about that myself. I've seem many cautions indicating that to deliver "full torque" in 1st gear would put the trans at serious risk. On the other hand many Viggen drivers run aftermarket ECUs that bump peak torque close to 300 ft-lb. Do they retain the factor 1st/2nd gear torque limits? If they retain the "logic" of reducing torque by the same percentage, they may be delivering more than 258 ft-lb even in 1st gear. Seems to me there must be good reason to not "mess with this" because I gotta believe--as you do--that it's an easily defeatable thing. Good luck, but be careful not to break a great car!
(BTW, if you plan to up your torque in any way, install the VRK first.)
