The ECU used to guess the gear that you are in from the wheel speed and engine RPMs. That was pre Viggen. With that (T5) arrangment, if you went into 3rd gear and immediately has some wheel spin, rare but possible, then the ECU was confused and would not boost. Then you had to shift out to another gear then back again to get boost.
It is my understanding that the Viggen's had some switch(es) on the shifter or gear box, can't remember exactly. These were there to prevent the T7 from getting confused with what gear as the Viggen had subtantial wheel spin potential.
I think that if you try to defeat such things with the T7 you will get the ECU confused with undesireable consequences. Such things will probably be harmless but a CEL or check GB may result. Look for a connector on the trany for starters. There will be one for reverse in any case.
Typically the first gear boost can be changed by tighening up the wastegate linkage. This will also improve spoolup a bit in all gears. Now the motorized throttle and the ECU might simply reduce boost be closing the throttle. I would mark the location of the wastegate adjustment by strikining off the top of one of the threads right at the jamb nut so that you can reverse the setting if needed.
MBC's will not work to get any significant increase of boost. But they can be installed in-line to improve spool-up. If you want more boost you do need a modified ECU, air cleaner and perhaps exhaust. I gather that the Aero exhaust is quite free flowing and you could skip the replacement exhaust if you wanted and have an effective stage two until the original exhaust rots out.
