Rough idle on cold startup

I have already read some of the other posts about this (I have a 2001 9-3SE). When I start my car, the RPMs drop too low (like 1000 RPM) for it to run when it is cold. The car will shake and make wierd noise and today for the first time it made a pretty loud bang (I assume this was a misfire). It only happens on a cold start (Runs fine normally, and starts fin if the car hasn't been off for a long time), and it doesn't always happen. For some reason being outside overnight seems to worsen the problem. I think it may be the DI cassette, but before I go that route I wanted to narrow it down a little more. I am going to add techron concentrate today, and I wanted to refill the battery. The problem is that I am worried about messing with the battery. When you re-fill it, do you need to disconnect it? If so, is there any special way to disconnect it (I don't want to set off the car alarm or anything)? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
