As promised, I'd like to try to put together a summary of people's experiences with attempts, successful or not, to make the MTF 0063 manual transmission fluid change. Once I compile it, I intend to write Saab USA and attempt to receive an official stance on resolution of the matter (i.e. can we or can we not expect the change to be covered at a dealer under warranty?) Whether you have already addressed the MTF 0063 issue with your car, or have just thought about it because of troublesome symptoms, your data is valuable to all of us in the community in finding a general solution.

- which has a description of the new fluid, and why you would want it. Basically it is prescribed to address rough shifting issues in our manual transmission cars.
If you are interested in contributing to this effort, please drop me an email at sorenson@alumni.rice.edu with the following info (or post here):
(1) Your vehicle model, model year, and current mileage.
(2) Description of any troublesome symptoms you have had with the manual transmission, and an approximate history of when they started, how they have changed, etc.
(3) History of any repair work done on the manual transmission or related systems, including updating to the new spec MTF 0063 transmission fluid.
If you have had the update to MTF 0063 performed:
(4a) Who performed the change. You? Your dealer (if so, name dealer)? An independent shop?
(5a) Who paid for it? Warranty coverage? Out-of-pocket? What was the total cost?
(6a) Any specifics related to (4a) or (4b). Such as, how many times did you have to visit a dealer and complain before it was done? Any negotiations with dealer/Saab on warranty coverage? If you did it yourself, specifics of the time/effort involved and your mechanical know-how?
If you have not had the MTF 0063 update performed:
(4b) Have you tried? i.e. sought resolution of your troublesome symptoms through a dealership? If so, what is the history of results of your attempts?
And finally, a general question for all:
(7) How do you believe Saab/SaabUSA should most appropriately address this problem?
Also please include any other information you believe is relevant, or comments on how we should best approach resolution. I feel that with the strength of ourselves as a group, SaabUSA will be much more motivated to provide a solution than with each of us individually.
