but it's actual lifetime has so much statistical scatter that you can't take it into the dealer every x miles, just before it's about to go. Many people carry a spare in the trunk just in case your situation happens. If you're getting it replaced, and have some spare time, ask to watch how they are replaced (I've never done it myself, and the last thing I need when it goes far from home is to realize that I didn't keep the right tools in the trunk). Perhaps there are instructions on these BB that outline the procedure.

As for your cat...it seems to have failed earlier than most. Have you been given any indication of what in particular the failure was? Perhaps your engine isn't running optimally, so the catalysts are being worn out prematurely. Just a guess on my part...
