Wow, this is great; thanks for the input & observations!
Any mechanics care to comment? (Anders? dtech? others?)
So far, I'm not hearing any definitive reasons why this stuff is Bad, Bad, Bad. Don't get me wrong; I realize there are concerns about using it. But like some have said, using any tool improperly can cause problems.
I guess I'm still wondering if migration of even miniscule amounts of this stuff can affect any of the other systems in the immediate vicinity?
Dean,
I understand your concerns & I even agree with them, in principle. I'm not asking about lead-based anti-seize, so I don't believe lead contamination's a concern here. (And I don't own any silver-colored anti-seize to check the contents.) As Dean C pointed out, thread clearances are tight & clean off all but the thinnest film of compound. Also, as Mark pointed out, there are different formulations of similar metallic compounds. And the moly grease you're using probably has other metallic compounds in it as well (lithium & zinc? maybe others?). Do all of these compounds react the same as the stuff blended into motor oil? Do you have anything which supports your suspicions?
