It doesn't cost one cent more to make 93 octane as opposed to 87. Those friggin oil companies are holding us over a barrel (pun intended). That's my rant-for-the-day!
Now, onto Saabs, my old 9000T 160k runs just fine on 87. It runs slightly stronger on 93 but when I was a starving student it got a steady diet of 87 with no problems.
My '99 9-3S (not HOT) runs just fine on 87. It runs a bit stronger on 93 and I make considerably more money than the student days. Now, it gets a diet of mostly 93 octane diet. It's just a tad more fun to have that extra OOMPH! I really like the APC Saab employs and feel it's one of the stronger design features.
A few friends have Ford Rangers, Jeep Cherokees and the like. Their vehicles run like absolute crap on 87 and reasonably well on 93 and they only get 12-18 mpg's. I just sit back and snicker to myself when I hear them complain. :-)
