First of all Saab dealers get first crack at the nice cars at the Saab dealer's only off lease auctions. Other brands of dealers and the smaller lots get the leftovers.
You can purchase an off brand warranty with similar coverage to the 6 year 100,000 mile, zero deductible, Saab Certified Factory warranty for around $2,500-3,000, but it won't be as good. Ask the independent to give you a quote on a warranty, I'm sure he sells one.
The Saab dealer get's that warranty for only $1,150, a real steal. That's because Saab requires the car to pass an extra-rigid inspection and re-conditioning process that averages $2,000-3,000. Your independents, even if they do know the car, won't do as good a job. Why give someone new brakes and tires if they're 50%? A Certified Saab probably has new brakes and tires.
So an independent can beat a Certified Saab dealers price by $2,500 and by the time you've purchase an inferior warranty and bring the car up to spec the Certified car might be the better deal.
I'm not taking anything away from the do-it-youself car buyer, but Saab Certified may be considerably cheaper in the long and short run.
And then there's 3.9% for 60 months (2.9% x 48) on Certified Saabs from Saab Financial.
