I bought my 1999 9-3 at auction with the help of an individual who is a licensed auto dealer last year. While shopping for Saabs through the classified ads, I ran across a man who is a licensed dealer who routinely buys Saabs coming off 3 year Chase Bank lease at the weekly auction in Columbus Ohio. This fellow buys Saabs to stock a used car lot at a dealer in Sturgis, SD. I gave him the information about what I wanted and it took about three auctions before they had what I was interested in (5 speed, still under factory warrany) at a good price. He test drove the car and called me with the VIN and a description and estimated final price. The car happened to be from the local Saab dealer and when I called them they did not volunteer any specific information about the car except to say that it had received excellent service with nothing major wrong. (I now believe that it had oil changes every 5000 miles but missed it's 30,000 service.) I told him I was interested in the car and gave him my highest price. The next day I inspected the car and bought it from him (at my highest price). I was under no obligation because if I didn't like it, he would ship it to the dealer in Sturgis.

I think I got a good price but not a steal. It seem to be about $1500 to $2000 cheaper than similar non-certified cars in the area although there were no models being sold that were exactly the same for a good comparison.

He called me a few days later to see if I was happy (I was) so we never discussed what might have happened if I had been unhappy. I considered the sale "as is" with no warranty at all. I would use this person again to find me a car.

Incidently, I got a speeding ticket within the first 24 hours, clocked by airplane on US 52 in Ohio.
