Quality of socket isn't as important on the 9-3ss because they changed the seal at the drainplug from a copper washer to a rubber ring. They don't seem to require nearly as much force to get out. any 6 point(6 facets on the inside of the socket ie bolt shaped) will do.
Buy your filter from Saab and save the reciept in case there is ever a question of maintenance of your car for a warranty claim. If you ever have a turbo fail they may want proof that you changed your oil.
I wouldn't worry too much about resetting your oil life indicator. you know when you want to change it and your major services will still be indicated normally and if you reset it you will never get your free oil change when to oil life indicator gets to zero.
