I had Firestone SZ50 tires in 205/55/16 and they quite heartily outperformed the Michelin HX or whatever the stock tire was as well as the Toyo FZ4 tires that I have on it now. The only one I ran in 205/55/16 vs the 205/50/16 were the Firestones. There was a small change in steering feel but it was offset by being more forgiving in terms of road undulations as well as the ride. It's a very small difference.
I'm going back to 205/55/16 next time. Be aware of a small change in speedo reading. You'll be going slightly faster than the speedometer says you are; something like <3mph at 70.
