Do it. I owned an '80 900 Turbo in Germany--1st generation turbo--too many problems and stated I would never buy another. Wife bought a new black '85 900 turbo (3d generation turbo) and I ordered a 325 BMW. I liked my wife's '85 so much, I cancelled the Beemer and ordered an '85 SPG (also black). Best move I ever made--other than saying "I do" 33 years ago. Loved the SPG and drove it with pride for 20 years. Classic design and still loved it when I traded it in on a 2001 Viggen 5dr last week. Went through remorse on giving up the SPG but with two 20-year old Saabs entering winter, I just couldn't pass up the black Viggen (seemed like my SPG's grand child). Needed a hatchback and this fit the bill. Still feel bad about giving up the SPG, but this Viggen is great. So much power and great looking in the front. SPG side and rear were better looking and the trunk was bigger, but the Viggen holds the road so much better, great amenities--and did I mention the power? I've owned Saabs for 25 years and so far this seems to be the best one, although it's too early to judge with confidence. Each day I look forward to getting into the Viggen and driving. Owning a Saab is not cheap--it is maintenance intensive. But all things considered, I recommend doing it.
