Wow. How to begin this Saab story? I own four pre-1994 Saab 900's. I have a 2000 9-3, and I love the simplicity of the older cars. I've been having a problem with my 9-3 starting. All that I can get my SID to display is
"2 remote key - 2 transponder." Moving the shifter and hitting the hatch release does nothing. Hitting any key on the FOB while the key is in the ignition in the "on" position (as suggested by the owner's manual) does not work all the time. Leaving the car for a half hour sometimes works. I called the Saab 800 number this week when I was marooned at a gas pump for 1hr 20 mins. Their answer: take it to the dealer. It has been to the dealer twice since April, and it won't fail for them. They can only guess. I called AAA for a tow, and a very large tow truck driver arrived. He took the key and squeezed into the driver's seat and started the car. "No charge," he said. "This happens to Saabs all the time. Just close the door and hit all three buttons on the FOB at the same time, stick the key in the ignition, and wammo off you go." In one 24-hour period this has saved me twice. I thought that it may help someone else, too. Does anyone have any advice on what the real problem is, beyond faulty engineering?
