found a used 2002 rack with 6k miles (yes, almost new!)... did the swap. no change in steering feel.
drove the car about 250 miles this weekend. three times during the trip (each for about 2-3 miles at a time) the steering suddenly firmed up (almost back to normal), only to loosen right back up. During these moments of bliss the ride is smoother, the car stops wobbling on warped asphalt (tire ruts) and the steering wheel doesn't jump when i hit a road defect/pothole/patch.
UGH! I’M AT THE END OF MY ROPE!
Q: is there anything in the power steering system that could be affecting the pressure in the system? Perhaps a control valve, or some sort of regulator valve? something that could malfunction and restrict oil flow -- thus causing the steering to feel over-assisted? i replaced the pump 8-9 months ago when this first started.
aside from the rack and pump, what else controls the power steering?
i really don't know what to do next... any help would be appreciated.
