My experiences are very similar. (99 9-3SE) After some time, usually a few CD's into a road trip, they start acting up. The player may simply stop recognizing the CD and report an error. If I eject/turn off/reinsert enough times, it usually starts working again. Likely just enough time to cool off though. The CD, when ejected is very HOT. I do notice this from store bought CD's too (heat only). Some times, it is too hot to even hold. I have often wondered if I am frying something in there. It happens summer and winter.
My 'fix' is to turn off the unit and sit in the silence for a while (maybe 30 minutes) and then the unit is good gain for another few CD's. (This can be especially frustrating when listening to books on tape copied onto CD-R's) hee.
