NG 900 and 9000 Engines are Not Triumph/Saab Engines

The Triumph/Saab Slant Four was used by Saab from the Mid-60's to the early 70's. I believe the '73 ('72??) 99 EMS used a newly Saab-designed engine. It is the 99EMS engine which is the ancestor to the NG900-era fours. I believe the 2.3 L four was also a near-clean-sheet design. Certainly Saab learned much from the Triumph-nee-Ricardo four design and incorporated that experience in its new engine designs in the '70's. My knowledge of early Saabs is much more limited than my knowledge of Triumphs. Perhaps some of the resident Saab history experts can help sort out the "bloodlines" of the NG900-era fours.
