Dean,
If I had to choose one factor, I would say the ECU.
Funny thing is I'm only into this tank of Chevron 93 for a hundred miles.
I put new tires on a month ago and pressures are dialed in (I always watch tire pressure closely). Wind is not a factor. Weather here in Houston has
been consistently hot and calm during this little test. I do notice the increase in power with the higher octane.
I cleaned the injectors a thousand miles ago. I literally watched the MPG's go up on the SID (and I normally back this up with a fuel used/miles driven calculation)as soon as the 93 mixed with the residual 89 octane. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but my driving has been so consistent with the commute that no other variables seem to play.
I guess I just didn't think the difference between Chevron 89 and 93 would be so dramatic in such a short time. I'll report back when I empty this tank and refill. Maybe I've been denying myself 10% joy too long!!
Thanks for your input, it makes alot of sense.
