I am not getting a clunk sound. It is more like the motor mount got compressed (if this is possible) so the initial angle the left front axle went into the tranny is now different causing there to be more play on the tranny end. The CV joint end is pretty tight (I would say little or no play). So the mechanic's theory was that if the engine is placed back in its original position, then you wouldn't have play in the front axles. The reason I don't think this theory works is that there is little or no play in the right front axle. It sounds like the mechanic is fishing for a cure, but he is a Saab mechanic and he says he has seen worn out motor mounts at 50K and getting the engine in the proper position can stop extra play in the front axles. What do you think?
