DOT 5 silicone does not absorb water. Seems like a good thing, right? But moisture still gets into the brake system and it collects as discrete pockets of water, corroding the expensive ABS pump, brake lines, etc.
Not to be confuse with DOT 5.1 which is a high temperature brake fluid commonly used in heavy duty fleet, track and high speed road use. DOT 5.1 is compatable with DOT 4.
