30k miles viggen clutch gone

Greetings,
I have 2002 European delivery 9/3 Viggen. Just passed 30k miles.
Since 20k miles I noticed a short high pitched noise coming from the engine area when releasing the clutch on the first gear. This happened only when going over a speed bump or on fully turned wheels.
Local Bay Area dealer suggested to take it apart and check it before the
warranty is over. $1600 down I got the verdict from the dealer that the clutch was "glazed" and had to be replaced and the flywheel surface reconditioned.
Since this is a wearable item it is not covered by warranty.
I got the replaced parts back and I see that the clutch disk is completely
untouched - the ventilation grooves are firmly visible on both sides.
The clutch metal disk has slight discoloration on the center-most edge but
no glazing or any material on it - perfectly smooth.
At the same time the service invoice shows that the dealer added quite a bit of oil to the transmission. I wonder if the noise was the result of low oil level instead of the clutch problem?
Any comments or suggestions on how to approach this. Talk to SAAB? Who?
Get the clutch inspected by independent mechanic?
cheers
-Peter
