Can someone help with this problem? We also need to measure the old friction plate and compare to a new one. So access to a new clutch part for measurement would be good. (But I do think that these details may not be a issue, read on.)

Pete, How does the throw out bearing seem. Loose, tight, smooth visable wear from the throwout fork or pressure plate spring fingers? How do the fingers look for wear. I am wondering of the TO bearing is at fault. A noise, as you report, does suggest the TB bearing. But that does not seem consistant with having to turn or climb a speed bump etc.

If the TB bearing is bad, then replacing the rest of the clutch while in there for so much labor, would be considered to be a wise thing to do! And the report of glazing may be exagerated and quite off of the point anyways. Now with some the hills around there, atleast some hint of glazing would not be unexpected!

Was the flywheel machined or left as is? If not machined, that speaks to good shifting techniques etc. My clutch was replaced at 108,000 while replacing the rear seal. It looked good. Flywheel was left as is. They also replaced the TOB fork and we resealed the trany and switched to the then current Saab synthetic GB oil as part of preventative maintenance.

Summary: Perhaps a bad TB bearing. But at this point, best to have the other new clutch parts in there. So the amount of wear, or glazing or not, may not the main issue.

We did see a very few bad TO bearings many years ago, but these are not reported any more. Overall the Saab TOB is very good. I think that I recall some unhappyness with an aftermarket TOB.
