We seem to have a pattern in recent posts that indicate that the leaning out is caused by MAFs going off spec. At that point, once detonation occurs, it is not likely that the old pistons would not fail. There seems to also be a pattern where the #1 piston is the first to go... a DIC related thing.
There is some indication that the newer oil pumps wear prematurely, or have accelerated wear when oil is neglected or degraded. So a repair to an engine with new bearings and other components can have low oil pressure, then a new pump brings things back. So is the pump a cause or a victim... hard to tell.
There there is the PCV fiasco. And smoking and failed turbos. On the NG900 BB, a turbo problem is almost never seen. The boost pressures were not high, however for the folks who modified boost pressures, these did not fail either.
Head bolts.... lets not even get started ;)
I cannot help but feel that something has been lost.
