A key without a transponder will open the door. I guess it'll set off the alarm. It will NOT start the engine.
How's this for a plan...
Get a big fat Saab key with the remote-unlocking buttons from ebay or ???
Dismantle it, save the plastic stuff, throw away only the metal frame which includes the cut key.
From a dealer, order just the key skeleton (or whatever it's called) which is cut for your lock cylinders. Assemble the other stuff together.
Dealer (or indie mechanic) has to use Tech-2 to enable your new key. You have to bring ALL keys; any that you forget to bring won't work any more. You aren't 'programming' the KEY, you're giving the CAR a list of 'authorized' keys.
