I have Pirelli PZero Nero M+S's 225/45/17 tires on my 1999 9-3SE on Fondmetal rims (they also make aftermarket rims for Saab). They rub inside the front wheel wells when turning max one way or the other. Search on that on this board and you will find the solution which is removing (trimming) a screw or two inside the wheel wells.

The major issue I have is that the left rear wheel will hit the lip on the inside of the quarter panel (the painted part of the wheel well in front of the tire) and actually cut into the outside of the tire about a tenth of a millimeter. It sounds horrible when hitting through, especially when knowing the damage that just occurred. This only happens when I have two people in the back or when loaded down with a decent size load.

I would go with the 225/40/17's if you could, because even if it is a 45 size tire, the sidewall is quite tall on the M+S vs a summer tire. That is the only thing I'd change on mine. Of course, if you went with the 215's, you would have less to worry about. Personally I think a wider tire look better and I absolutely love my Pirelli's! They are quiet and have excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions! Another thing I wonder about is why the right side doesn't hit through like the left one, but that's another issue.

Good luck in your selection.
