Our 2001 base 9³ had that breather mod done under warranty. I had been getting a little oil thru the breather pipe into the turbo. Now I'm kinda wondering the same thing: Was it a mistake to have this done?
Once after a 1000 mile trip I noticed the oil was down about 0.3 qt. I've noticed more moisture condensation in the top of the oil filler neck too, but it's also been cold...
I used Castrol semi-synth, then Mobil semi-synth, then based on advice here I switched to Mobil 1 5w-30 a long time ago.
