I have a 2001 9-3 SE and my DI died at around 21k. Dealer was great and replaced sparkplugs, DI, and got me running very quickly. Had I known about this problem I would never have bought this car.
Even though I carry one in the trunk, I will never have peace of mind with this car. As much as I like Saab, the two BMW's that I owned for 14 years never ever left me stranded on the road.
Dealer told me that there is no way to predict when it could happen. It could never happen again, or it could happen tomorrow. It is appalling, but I hear the new 9-3s dont have this problem, but they have other problems. If Saab could address their reliability issues and start putting V6's in their cars, they could actually sell more than 30-40 K cars a year.
