What chemical cleaners have you used in the oil? None atall.
What oil are you now using? - - 10W30 conventional.
How long running this way since rebuild? - - From minute one. 300 - 400 miles.
Starts ok? - - Yes.
Idles ok? - - Yep
MPGs? - - Seems to be excellent but haven't measured it.
Power/acceleration ok? - - Seems just fine although I'm used to the 9K; not this one. My first time driving a NG900. (Think I'll be needing to tighten up those subframe bolts just a bit.)
I can also ask the machine shop about the hollow bolts. I have a fairly complete set of shop manuals - - about a yard worth - - so I can probably look up to see where those bolts go. I sure hope I haven't been starving cam bearings for oil all this time! The clatter seems to lessen or disappear when I load it. At one place I can make the sound come and go by pedal pressure. Yet when I get on it (which is still rare - - I'm chicken while the engine is questionable) it definitely clatters.
By the way, the CEL came back on. But I went and had the emissions tested anyway. It not only passed but did so with the typical Saab wide margin to the good. Flying colors. Thanks Dean. You have an excellent reputation where these delightful and challenging autos are concerned.
