I believe that I finally fixed my air bag problem that plagued my 1999 9-3 for two years.
I had been fighting a problem where the check air bag light would come on and the dealer could not clear it as their tester said that the drivers side air bag had over 4 ohms resistance which was triggering the fault. Rather than replace the side air bag and wiring harness, I removed the pins from the connector under the seat for the air bag, removed the pins and soldered in an aftermarket connector for both wires. I also removed the connector on the air bag control module and cleaned the pins well with contact cleaner.
I reassembled everything and did not take it back to the dealer to be reset. After driving it for about 45 days, the check air bag light went out and has stayed off for over two months now.
I just wanted to post this as I know several others have had similar problems. Although I would not recommend driving the vehicle as long as I did with the air bags potentially disabled, the air bag computer will reset itself after some time period, or at least mine did.
