I haven't really seen any problems with the NG900 automatic.
They do wear out the transmission fluid though in short time so it is just plain stupidity from Saab not to suggest regular fluid changes as in every 30K miles.
Yes, it is a slight chance that if your trannys fluid is burnt to hell and back now, it might "break the neck" of your transmission if you flush it but in any way I don't think you have much to loose. The old fluid might be your only problem.
What is a common problem though is that the selector switch on top of transmission goes bad and when that happens, the transmission starts in third gear and it could feel like the transmission is slipping.
