with my 1994 SE 5 spd. coupe at 100k, then again at 150k. Your estimates of what your car needs (or soon will need) at the mileage you have are pretty accurate based on my experience. My car was pretty trouble free until 100k. Between 100-150k I did the front suspension, front and rear brakes, replace all coolant hoses, turbo hoses and vac lines, belt and pulley, two more clutch cables, replaced audio speakers (old ones just got baked by the sun, tires, A/C expansion valve, dealt with roof and trunk leaks, VC gasket, water pump, DIC, two motor mounts.
Now at 154k, I deperately need a clutch, TO bearing and a bunch of seals and a new headliner, two broken studs on exhaust manifold, but my car still looks good inside and out. I even have a "spare" 2000 9-3 SE that rearely gets driven. I have my fingers crossed that I wont need a headgasket and that my AC holds up. But here are the PLUSES + I considered;
Low property tax on an older car
Cheap insurance rates, you can drop the comp or raise deductibles
Can get the best parking spot at Home Depot or grocery store
No worry about dents or dings
And here is what else I have learned that if I had known I wouldnt have bought the 00 9-3. The 9-3 has some fatal flaws that our old cars do not have.
Loose head bolts from factory (ok if you get to them before you need a head gasket)
DI cartridge that fails on a frequent basis that can leave you stranded, anywhere, anytime.
Engine sludge issues that will destroy your engine no matter what oil you use or how often you change it.
I think your car will serve you well for another 50k and it wont be worth much less at that point. I say GO FOR IT! Sounds like you are realistic about what it will take to get it there (I would add motor mounts, hoses and water pump, all easy DIY). I am going to fix my clutch and take a run at 200k.
